My mom came down to visit about 2 weeks ago. She was going to spend the night and then we were going to take Kane to get his pictures made the next day. I was so excited because Kane had not had any professional pics made yet. I know I know, I am a horrible Mom. Well, my mom woke up the next morning feeling horrible. We had to take her to the ER in Jackson because she was having awful abdominal pains. So, unfortunately, out photo appointment was cancelled. My mother is doing better now, thank God, but Kane still had not had any pics taken and I just didn't know how long it would be before she would be feeling well enough to come back down. Needless to say, I was pretty upset about the whole thing and I cried about it to Danny for days.
So last week Danny told me that he had a surprise for me and Kane on Saturday. He said that it was something that I had briefly mentioned that I wanted to do. I was both confused and worried. Once I said that I needed to start running, so for my birthday he "surprised" me with running shorts. Yeah, running shorts. It is the thought that counts, but a present that encourages weight loss on your birthday, well, you know how it made me feel.
So I was ready to embrace this Saturday surprise with a smile on my face, and take whatever was to come. Both Danny and his mother kept freaking me out all week. I was told that I should bring a change of clothes in case I got dirty. My mother-in-law even told me to bring a pair of cleaning gloves. By last Friday, I was convinced we were headed to a petting zoo and I was going to have to clean up after some type of animal.
We got up at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning, went and ate breakfast, and then went to the mall. It was about 11:30am when Danny said that we had to be at our destination by 12:00pm and that we had better get going. Well, we were walking out of the mall when he stopped me by one of the portrait studios. He said, " Here we are. This is it!" He had scheduled for Kane to have his pictures made. I teared up. How thoughtful and sweet. He knew how important it was to me to have Kane's pictures taken, so he surprised me with a photo session. It was wonderful. We had a great time, the pics turned out great, and it made me remember why I loved Danny so much. What a great day!

Morning Routine
It's funny sometimes when you think about your life pre-baby. Danny and I wouldn't get out of bed on a weekday until we had hit the snooze button at least twice. We would run around like chickens with our heads cut off to get out the door on time. My how things change. These days I only set the alarm clock on the off chance that Kane will sleep past 5:30am. By the way, he never does. He is always up by 5:00am ready to eat and play.
Now, instead of hitting the snooze button, Danny gets up and gets Kane out of bed while I fix his morning bottle. The two of them get back into bed for their cuddle/feeding time. I use this time to get ready for work since I leave about an hour before Danny each morning. It melts my heart everyday when I listen to the two of them as I am putting on my make-up. Danny talks to Kane and Kane babels on and laughs at his daddy. Every morning when I finish getting ready, I come out of the bathroom to see my two boys propped up in bed watching cartoons. I laugh at the sight of the two of them. Kane looks like Danny's mini me with his arms behind his head and his feet crossed. It cracks me up just thinking about it.
Helping with morning feedings is just the beginning of all the wonderful things that Danny does for me and Kane everyday. I am so lucky to have him as my husband, and he is a wonderful dad. Life can be so hectic for two working parents like us, and time with Kane is much more limited than I wish it was. However, I absolutely love that they have their boy bonding time each morning.

Seven Months

I've always said that I wished that I the time to blog, so that I could keep everyone updated on Kane as he continues to grow. I have claimed for the last several months that I just "didn't have the time." Well, I have decided that I should "make the time" this year, and become a blogger!
I can't believe that Kane will be seven months old on Friday. The time has flown by for both Danny and I. Eight months ago Danny and I were living in Philly, PA waiting on our twins to arrive. Our wait ended on June 22, 2009 when they finally arrived after four days of attempting to delay my labor. I was 34 weeks when my boys decided that they couldn't wait any longer. Unfortunately, my time with Kase was very short, and Kane's first few days of life were filled with anxiety. However, God, Danny, our families, and a great medical staff, made life in the NICU as pleasant as it could be.
When Kane was only 10 days old, he along with my mother and myself left the hospital, had a wreck in a cab on the way to the airport, and finally boarded a commercial flight home. I was terrified!! I kept him covered the whole time, and told people on the plane that they couldn't look at or touch him. When we finally landed in Jackson, I could have kissed the ground. All I wanted to do was go meet Danny at my mom's house, and drive home, a place I had not seen in over a month. Only one problem, some of our luggage was in Detroit. Thankfully a few hours later, we headed home, luggage in tow.
So much has changed since those first few days at home with Kane. Though I still worry, my anxiety level has definitely gone down with time. He loves to play and smile and babble on an on. I cant believe that in less than six months he will be a year old!! Although the second half of my pregnancy was less than desirable, and the first few months at home were a little scary, motherhood is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love being Kane's mother. Seeing his face every afternoon when I go get him from his Nana's is priceless. I melt when he smiles and laughs. Sometimes I catch myself just staring at him, feeling so blessed that he is mine.
